Let’s help the next generation fall in love with the natural world!
Today, children are spending less time outdoors than any generation. Many are growing up disconnected from nature, spending more time on screens and less time exploring the world around them. Research shows this disconnect can impact their physical health, mental well-being, creativity, and ability to focus.
At Land Trust for Louisiana, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the wonder of nature firsthand.
Through expert-led, kid-friendly guided outdoor experiences, children will have opportunities to explore, discover, and connect with the natural world. From kayaking and observing wildlife to learning about native habitats, kids are participating in activities that encourage creativity and curiosity. These experiences are designed to help the next generation begin to build a lifelong connection to the land.
OUR GOAL
We aim to impact more than 200 children on the Northshore during the 2026-2027 school year. We are pairing these experiences with our landowners and partners in conservation and the special places we have protected.
It’s more than recreation. It’s about helping children develop confidence, curiosity, stewardship, and an appreciation for the natural places that make Louisiana special.

UPCOMING EVENTS
September: Bogue Chitto Kayak Adventure
Grades 5–7
There’s no better way to experience Louisiana’s natural beauty than from the water.
This fall, middle school students will paddle their own kayaks down the scenic Bogue Chitto River during a guided adventure led by our partners at Canoe & Trail in Covington. As they navigate the gentle river, students will explore one of Louisiana’s most beautiful waterways while discovering native plants, wildlife, and the unique ecosystems that make this region so special.
Along the way, they’ll build confidence, practice teamwork, and experience the excitement of outdoor exploration in a safe and supportive environment. For many participants, this will be their very first time kayaking—an unforgettable experience that encourages curiosity, independence, and a deeper connection to nature.
This three-hour adventure is designed specifically for 5th-, 6th-, and 7th-grade students and serves as the kickoff to our Kids in Nature fall program.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th — FOREST HIKE & NATURE ART.
Nature has a remarkable way of slowing us down and helping us notice the world around us.
During this immersive forest experience, students will be guided by a Certified Forest Therapy Practitioner through a peaceful walk designed to awaken their senses and deepen their connection to the natural world. Along the trail, they’ll be invited to observe, listen, and explore the forest in new ways while learning about Louisiana’s native landscapes.
The experience concludes with a creative nature art activity, where students will use natural materials and their own observations to create artwork inspired by the environment around them. By combining exploration, mindfulness, and creativity, students will leave with a greater appreciation for the outdoors—and a renewed sense of wonder that they can carry with them long after the day ends.
